Mounting and writing to second hard drive...
ITMA - if any one of you is old enough to remember? I have 2 x 200GB hard drives in my desktop computer: (1) one is formatted for Linux and contains my root, swap and Home partitions with LinuxMint installed. (2) the other is formatted with Ext3 for one partition only. I can mount (2) by going in to Comput... 7 Aug 2008 18:38

Hidden files as backup...
Hi! I've had to do a complete reinstall of LinuxMint on my Desktop computer. Fortunately I had a backup of Firefox, including the hidden folders on a USB pendrive. After the reinstall was completed I renamed the home/.mozilla file and copied the backup in its place, expecting that when I opened Firefox all my... 27 Jul 2008 05:21
USB hard drive - external...
Because of mindless "fiddling" by me, I have had to do a complete reinstall of LinuxMint upon my Desktop computer. Fortunately I had a backup, on an external USB hard drive, including hidden folders of the major programmes I use. The reinstall was successful but for some reason the computer will not read the US... 25 Jul 2008 12:29

Linux on USB to run Skype?
I look after a "public" PC in our village which is failing to run Skype on Vista Basic - lots of repeated voice snippets ("stammering" is the best description I can think of). It's a bottom-end PC (AMD Athlon 3500 I think), and I suspect that Vista is eating too much processor time to give Skype what it needs... 25 Jul 2008 03:16

A newsstar user just told me he had to alter its perl script component to correct sendmail's path to /usr/lib/sendmail (he forgot to tell me what he corrected it from and I think he's just gone on holiday). Disc encryption?
Wotcher all, what's the favoured disc encryption system these days for linux? I thought I'd ask in here as well as poking around on the net, given that google keeps throwing 8-year-old pages at me and someone here's bound to have had a crack at it already. Wouldn't it be lovely if 8-year-old howtos would expire ... 25 Jul 2008 16:36
