From: Andre Lefebvre on 11 Oct 2006 17:55 Hi all, It's been a bit since I showed up here... Hope you pagans all are having a good time... :O) I'm working on putting together a quote to purchase upgrade my computer, mostly for graphics and music. I now use XP, so my 9.03 is long outdated, so I'll be looking into HomeStudio, enough for what I need. Now about HARDWARE... I started reading about the new stuff, duo core and all, and wonder if anyone here has input on where to go from here: - chipset (make and speed) - motherboard - graphic card (for CS2) - RAM I understand everything's gone Express now, but I got the rest covered in terms of casing, power supply (OCZ 450 12U, unless there's issue here with dual processors higging resources?). Thanks for any help! Regards, Andre Lefebvre http://www.soulcanvas.com

From: Andre Lefebvre on 11 Oct 2006 19:10 Not to sound like Ted but... (Gosh! I went to visit him in LA a couple years ago... what you get here is only part of the story... very decent guy... Is he still around here?) > - chipset (make and speed) Intel...as for chipset I think they come out with one every month > - motherboard Intel-the best. I have a 915PBL. Plenty of USB and Firewire ports. What combination do you have as far as chipset/mobo? sounds like you got a rock solid combo. > - graphic card (for CS2) Good question. There is PCIe and Sli. Some boards for Intel are coming with graphics on them. Not sure they'd handle easily refreshing screens in Photoshop working CMYK 400megs files... > > I understand everything's gone Express now, but I got the rest covered in > terms of casing, power supply (OCZ 450 12U, unless there's issue here with > dual processors higging resources?). > That is more than enough. Board and processers do well with a 350W anymore at least if you go with Intel. thanks kitecrazy ( I just finished a website for a friend of mine http://www.canadiankitecompany.com - in case your nickname isn't a variation on a different theme...:O)
From: Andre Lefebvre on 11 Oct 2006 19:50 I found this online about the mobo: On a 915PBL motherboard (3.2GHz/ 533FSB) can anyone come up with a sound technical reason why using 2 x 1GB Kingston DDR II SDRAM (KVR533D2N4) might cause problems? (no other memory is fitted) Effectively this is a double sided version of the Kingston Technology KVR533D2N4/512 that is already on the Intel compatibility list http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/conf...=KVR533D2N4/1G The basic configuration of this 1GB module looks the same as that on the "Supported DIMM Configurations" listed at: http://support.intel.com/design/motherbd/bl/bl_mem.htm i.e. 1024 MB DIMM Capacity Double Sided 512 Mbit Front 64 M x 8 Back 64 M x 8 16 SDRAM Devices Just trying to eliminate the memory from the causes of intermittent hanging (for 20 secs) on windows search and video corruption (white noise blips) on Firewire inward transfers. --- andre "kitekrazy" <kitekrazy(a)sbcglobal.net.nospam> wrote in message news:6DeXg.15679$7I1.429(a)newssvr27.news.prodigy.net... > Andre Lefebvre wrote: >> Hi all, >> >> It's been a bit since I showed up here...
