From: Brian on 11 Oct 2005 04:46 I have an Asus Rock K8 UPGR VM 800 board with 60 gb hard drive operating with Windows XP (home). I am wanting to use the integrated graphics but am unable to load the drivers; all goes well until they are about 99% loaded then I just get the blue screen. I have downloaded the latest drivers from the Asus site but to no avail. So where do I go next?

Someone had the exact same problem with a K8V-MX Asus board. They haven't responded with any progress. Are you installing an integrated graphics driver like this (16944421) 16.94.44.21 = 08/11/2005, 6.14.10.0241 K8M800_16944421_XP_WIShld_logod.zip http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=420&OSID=1&CatID=1160&SubCatID=109 The integrated graphics driver should be installed _after_ you've installed some chipset drivers like these via_hyperionpro_v504a.zip . http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=420&OSID=1&CatID=1070 Please post back how it works out. From: Brian Sharp on 14 Oct 2005 04:06 Well, checked and updated everything that looked like it might need updating but still no luck with loading the video drivers. Could there be a bios adjustment or should I give up on the onboard graphics and get an agp card? I don't know of a way to debug an installer that gets to 99% and just hangs. I doubt your built-in video is busted. (It could be a memory problem I suppose, but it picked a pretty opportune time, if that is the case.) Looking at the files in K8M800_16944421_XP_WIShld_logod.zip , I noticed the S3ISCFG.DAT file controls a few things about the install (it is actually a text file). It mentions a file "LogFile=s3iscfg.log" and perhaps you could look for that log file somewhere on your system - it may have a trace of what went well and what did not. I was hoping there might be an option to announce each item installed, right on the screen, but they don't seem to have that. You could try uncommenting "Type=UserSetup", and putting a semicolon in front of "Type=Unattended". I don't know why exactly this installer is interested in resolution settings. So, there are a few curious things in the installer. (When saving out the file after playing with it, you'll want to change the extension back to .DAT as it was originally.) Most people don't enjoy doing stuff like that, but I revel in hacking away at nice files like that one :-) Don't give up without a fight. From: Brian on 22 Oct 2005 14:06 Finally admitted defeat and bought a stand alone graphics card. Installed, adjusted bios and works fine. Just assume there is a problem with the on board graphics.
