Next: Outlook 2007 How Duplicate Email Message?
From: MS on 3 Jul 2008 11:51 I'm using Outlook (and Office) 2003, with Win XPSP3. What advantages (and disadvantages, if any, besides the expense) would I find in upgrading to Outlook 2007? (Of course the upgrade would be to Office 2007, but for this discussion we can just discuss the changes to Outlook, not other Office programs.) Is 2007 less buggy, more stable? (Not always the case with new versions. Sometimes adding new features creates more bugs.) (For instance, would the problem I recently described of losing text on sending an e-mail, occur just as likely in OL 2007?) Thank you.
From: Roady [MVP] on 3 Jul 2008 12:24 Depends on what you are looking for. Some notable features; -the "To-Do Bar" -Calendar Overlay Mode -improved Tasks display in Calendar -reminders across folders -Scheduling your Out of Office Assistant with Exchange 2007 -Instant Search -of course; the new editor with Ribbon support Your previous issue is just as likely to happen again as long as you continue to use a virus scanner that integrates with Outlook. As said before; Outlook isn't the cause of that issue. -- Robert Sparnaaij [MVP-Outlook] Coauthor, Configuring Microsoft Outlook 2003 http://www.howto-outlook.com/ Outlook FAQ, HowTo, Downloads, Add-Ins and more http://www.msoutlook.info/ Real World Questions, Real World Answers ----- "MS" <ms(a)nospam.com> wrote in message news:eA31EVS3IHA.2060(a)TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > I'm using Outlook (and Office) 2003, with Win XPSP3. > > What advantages (and disadvantages, if any, besides the expense) would I > find in upgrading to Outlook 2007? I doubt that my anti-virus could have caused that, as it does not have Outlook integration.
From: Roady [MVP] on 3 Jul 2008 12:58 It probably has or you've omitted some information in your post. Messages don't convert themselves to Plain Text by pressing the Send button. -- Robert Sparnaaij [MVP-Outlook] Coauthor, Configuring Microsoft Outlook 2003 http://www.howto-outlook.com/ Outlook FAQ, HowTo, Downloads, Add-Ins and more http://www.msoutlook.info/ Real World Questions, Real World Answers ----- "MS" <ms(a)nospam.com> wrote in message news:OujXcrS3IHA.2348(a)TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... > > "Roady [MVP]" <newsgroups_DELETE_@_DELETE_sparnaaij_NO_._SPAM_net> wrote > in message news:957DD07D-460F-43A5-9234-3746D0EDB1F1(a)microsoft.com... > >> Your previous issue is just as likely to happen again as long as you >> continue to use a virus scanner that integrates with Outlook. From: MS on 3 Jul 2008 17:46 Here is a bug I have encountered in Outlook 2003, that I wonder if it has been fixed in 2007: I used to use Word as my e-mail editor. I found that it had some advantages with formatting, etc. However, it caused a problem. In Word I had the option selected, to replace straight quotes with smartquotes. Looks better in a Word document that way. But it messed up Outlook e-mail. Even in plain text e-mail (my default) (where one normally would not try to use smartquotes), Outlook would put some kind of attempt at smartquotes in the message, which the spell-checker would reject. When I would see the message back in a quote from someone replying to me, the quotes and apostrophes would be replaced by squares and other symbols. I finally deselected that option in Word about smartquotes. Strangely enough, the problem continued. Fiually, I de-selected the option in Outlook, to use Word as my e-mail editor. Too many problems with it (Office 2003). Does "use Word as E-mail Editor" work better in Office 2007?
