From: De Kameel on 24 Sep 2005 15:32 Hi, I installed VMware 4.5 (free 1-year eval with current German C'T magazine) on Windows XP, and installed Mandriva 2006 RC2 on that. So far OK, but it won't boot: the boot halts at: "Kernel panic - not syncing: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel". Googling this line in combination with 'vmware' doesn't reveal very much. I don't how to pass 'init=' to the kernel, what I should pass exactly, and whether it could be useful. To be complete: A few lines *before* that: Creating root device Mounting root filesystem /dev/root mount: error 6 mounting ext3 flags defaults well, retrying without the option flags mount: error 6 mounting ext3 well, retrying read-only without any flag mount: error 6 mounting ext3 pivotroot: pivot_root(/sysroot,/sysroot/initrd) failed: 2 Then some umount messages, and then the Kernel panic Is there a ext3 problem? Old VMware with a too new Mandriva? Any ideas or tips? De Kameel
