From: Mary Oakes on 15 Jul 2008 12:33 Hey everyone, A client has 6 brand new hp pavilions, one is a pavillion elite 9340f quad core and 5 are hp pavillion 6400f dual core on which I am running a peer to peer network with a single win32 application all running Vista Home Premium SP1, uac turned off. We intended to load the VO app and the data onto the 9340 box, but we have a problem networking to any of the new boxes.. If I run the app on any of the new computers, I get this message on the workstation: Description: A problem caused this program to stop interacting with Windows. Problem signature: Problem Event Name: AppHangB1 Application Name: Explorer.EXE Application Version: 6.0.6001.18000 Application Timestamp: 47918e5d Hang Signature: ccf9 Hang Type: 0 OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.768.3 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Hang Signature 1: e5b07b9b6c71a73c571c073d2648eff6 Additional Hang Signature 2: 7298 Additional Hang Signature 3: ad660cbecddc5e0e7277b675a4de204e Additional Hang Signature 4: ccf9 Additional Hang Signature 5: e5b07b9b6c71a73c571c073d2648eff6 Additional Hang Signature 6: 7298 Additional Hang Signature 7: ad660cbecddc5e0e7277b675a4de204e I can run the vo app using the old "server" box, an XP Pro machine, and, I can run the vo app from my Vista laptop running Vista Ultimate using the new hp's as workstations. Does anyone have experience with this? Is there is a "buggy" version of windows explorer on the new Vista boxes??? Windows explorer 6.0.6000.16549 on the ultimate box is working fine. Windows Explorer version 6.0..6001.18000 on he hp elite 64 bit Vista home premium box is not working. Thanks in advance for any help!!!!! Mary O

From: Mary Oakes on 15 Jul 2008 19:05 Thank you, Dave. But no. The post addresses a similar problem with IE. There are other complaints about this and explorer.exe but I could not find any solutions. I have posted on the Vista ng and also sent email to HP. HP has just suggested that I tun windows firewall off (which I had already done) and also try running the app in xp pro sp2 compatibility mode. I am trying that next and will report back. Mary
From: Williem on 15 Jul 2008 19:55 Geoff, You are missing the point. Mary said that this is a peer to peer network so there is no 2008 server involved. I do agree that VO apps run inder Vista just fine. I have a bunch out there. I believe that the root of Mary's issue is "permissions". Being that it is peer to peer, there is no DC to control the userid/pwd so Vista users peer permissions and passes a token around with the person's credentials. If there is not a matching userid/pwd on the machine that is acting as the server, the permissions will come in lower and that is what I suspect is the issue. Regards, Willie

Willie. You missed the point :-). I realise she said peer to peer. Server 2008 and Vista are basically the same at that level (IE etc) because they use the same technology for such things so I was just making the point that 'vista' is working fine for VO apps under a range of circumstances. Mary seemed to imply that IE was the issue. From a peer to peer point of view, there is no difference between XP and Vista that matters. If there is no domain then I presume they have enabled simple file sharing but quite obviously this is where the issue is. We have some customers who just use peer to peer with XP and Vista mixed. It works there so a solution should be possible. It will be to do with rights or an inconsistent file share. I still think they should update. We did nothing special to get our clients working, in fact, they just worked without our intervention.
