View drives on network

From: KLBirt on 19 May 2008 20:24 Using XP/SP3, DSL, Linksys wireless Everything set up and works fine except, I can not see anything on each other computers drives. I have file sharing set. I marked both computers hard drives as shared. I ran the Network wizard on both systems and set up file sharing. I even tried the IP address in both systems firewalls. Both computers I can see the drives, I just can not access them. I am the owner of both systems and I am the admin on both. What am I missing?

On the base system, I have the drives set to allow the group to share my C drive on the network and users can access and change files. I do not have any users set up at all. It is just my wife and I who use these. The base is mine and the other is hers. Whatever I am missing must be on my system since I can access the other system. No user name or logon required on either machine. It's just that if there is only one existing, without a password, the PC will automatically log you on when it boots up. From what you say, the (only) username is probably different on each computer. Make sure the user(s) all have the exact same userID and password account on each machine. -Frank

Several offer Internet worm virus protection by blocking the accessing of shared drives by name (ex: \\PC1\sharedfolder) but may let these be accessed by IP address (ex: \\192.168.1.1\sharedfolder) If you can access the folder / PC by IP address, then you need to check an set the anti-virus Internet worm protection setting (such as the Resolve NetBIOS name.)
