Hello:

I think that I'm more confused after reading this thread.

What security or malware program was causing the "Windows Security
Alert"/"Windows Web Security" window to pop up in the original post here?
Was it MS Windows Defender, MS Security Essentials, or some malware posing
as legitimate security software?

Is there any reason not to use and do a scan with MS Security Essentials?

Are the replies here saying that Malwarebytes is a superior anti-malware
program than MSE?

Yes, you can run both. Running scans with more than one anti-spyware
program (not simultaneously) is a good idea, since none of them is
perfect.
