From: Dangerous Dave on 16 Apr 2008 17:11 Further to my previous post "Warbling when exporting" I downloaded V2.0 of patchmix application and drivers as suggested by Rick. I now get a "VST adapter error" message whenever I try to access the patchmix effects. As follows: C:\Program Files\Creative Professional \Digital Audio System\Emu Patchmix DSP\VST\EmupowerFx.dll I did have the sense to set a restore point in windows so that if it all went wrong I could at least use the old application. But even though it restores back to the old patchmix it still comes up with the same error message. I have run the cakewalk VST finder thingy, but to no avail. I am loathe to re-load from the installation disc because I was nearing the end of the project and my FX settings were unique. ie tweaked from the normal pre-sets and I'm not sure I could reproduce them. PLus I want the new versions, of course. Anyone ?
From: Rick Paul on 16 Apr 2008 20:22 I haven't actually used the E-MU effects as VST plug-ins in ages, but I just tried here (using the 2.0 PatchMix and DAS drivers under SONAR 7.0.3) and they seem to work fine with a quick test of putting them on a track insert. I might add that I tried freezing the track, with Fast Bounce turned on (as per my default), and then copied the audio from that to another track, unfroze the track, and set the polarity reversal on one of the tracks. The output was silence, as would be expected -- meaning no warbling from the Fast Bounce in that simplistic case (just a drum loop being played through one of the multi-effects presets, "Bonhamum", from the Drums & Percussion subset. One thing I can think of is if you've moved the location of the VST DLL with the 2.0 stuff, be it intentionally or unintentionally, and still have both versions on there, accessing the wrong one for compatibility with the drivers or something. You don't mention what version of SONAR you're using (not sure if "VST adapter error" would sound like a message from a recent version of SONAR), but maybe there may be some older SONAR considerations there, too. One thing that might be worth trying is forcing a rescan of VST plug-ins, once you're sure you are using the correct version of the DLL. The other thing I wonder about is if the newer software could store its plug-in data differently from the older software. That sort of thing wouldn't have shown itself in my simple test because I don't have old projects with E-MU DSP plug-ins in them to load.
