It looks impressive. Unfortunately, AcuCobol was acquired by Micro Focus.

The question is: For how long?

I'll stick my neck out with some predictions... :-)

1. IBM or ORACLE will acquire MicroFocus within the next 7 years. (Probably
IBM; ORACLE got burnt billions with PeopleSoft and it will take some time
for them to recover...)
2. AcuCOBOL will not be supported within 2 years of tools to convert it to
MicroFocus COBOL becoming available. (I see a rationalisation of the entire
MicroFocus product range. Stephen Kelly is smart and knows they need to
consolidate the product line and their corporate image, for more efficient
marketing. They won't (can't) abandon the existing AcuCOBOL base, so they
will provide them an alternative. The company will be seen more as a "legacy
application moderniser", than as a COBOL vendor...)
3. MicroFocus will announce such a pathway within the next 5 years. (maybe
even within 3 years...)

I promise I have no "insider information" or corporate scuttlebut; these
predictions are based on observable events and trends that are happening
now. As such, I may be completely wrong, but I've made them anyway... :-)

Pete.

They had such a pathway years ago, called Lift And Shift. It was for getting off
mainframes.
