I have a pc with an IC7-G mb which has been running Win2k w/o issues
for a couple of years. Recently I have needed to run some software
that won't work on the Win2k, so I decided to add XP Pro. Long story
short, after it didn't work and after trying many things, I thought
there was an issue btwn the two OS's and decided to completely remove
the Win2k. I have even reformatted the HDD (80gig WD) with their
utility disk and then completely reloaded XP. Everything looks fine
during the install, until the last full boot up. Then it locks up part
way through. It will boot in safe and safe w/ command prompt, but not
safe w/ networking. The XP Pro disk is an older one... might even be
pre SP1. I've loaded it before on other systems with no issues. I also
loaded all the drivers from the Abit cd, except the USB driver which
it says to get from microsoft. After reading all the posts on this
forum that seemed to be related, I still haven't been able to find
anything which points to a resolution. Other than perhaps the HDD or
RAM (2X256k) developing a glitch at exactly the same time as I was
trying to convert the OS.... or the XP Pro cd being bad.... Anyone
have any ideas?

Try going into your system bios and disabling the onboard
network controller, USB and 1394. Finish installing XP
and then reenable these devices. XP should then be able
to load the required drivers.

Thanks for the tips. Tried them all.... no joy. I'm going after the
video board next.

Tried 2 different video boards and two different monitors, again, no
joy. Reset CMOS and loaded "optimized defaults", no joy.
Added PCI ethernet card to see if it would help the "safe w/
networking" to boot, no joy. Nothing I could find in the logs
told me anything. rrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Strange, I have an IC7-G with XP Pro SP/2 and have re-loaded XP a number of
times with no issues. I do not know what your specific problem is, but it is
not endemic to the IC7....
