From: toby106a on 15 Mar 2006 06:26 Hi, I have a western Digital WD800 Cavior series HDD. I cant read the drive from the last day, my BIOS detects the drive, no partiton information. While trying to crate a new partition using FDISK, it fails in the integrity check. My data is valid, how can I recover it? Plz help. Toby A.

My data is valid, how can I recover it? Thats what your backups are for. It isnt a good idea to create a new partition using fdisk if you want your data back. If the data is absolutely crucial, you're taking one hell of a risk since you dont know what you are doing. Use professional recovery. If the data isnt worth the cost of professional recovery, the best approach is to forensic clone the drive to another drive of the same size and try something like Easy Recovery Pro and see what it can find ON THE CLONE. That isnt free. You may need to buy another identical model drive and swap the logic card if a forensic clone doesnt work.
From: toby106a on 16 Mar 2006 03:49 Thanks... I just tried the FDISK to check the drive status. My data is valid... so I tried the same model drive in the market, but unfortunatly it is not available. Some one said it is the problem of firmware on the HDD. Is it possible to re-write the firmware? My drive is correctly detected by the BIOS. If it is posible I can recover the data.... Plz help. Thanks again..

Yes, it probably is. > so I tried the same model drive in the market, > but unfortunatly it is not available. Doesnt mean it wont ever be. > Some one said it is the problem of firmware on the HDD. Very unlikely indeed. > Is it possible to re-write the firmware? I already said that the safest approach is to do a forensic clone to a drive of the same size and see what recovery software like Easy Recovery Pro can see ON THE CLONE.
