FWIW, I'm as white as they come: the Indonesian lass (Asian) I mentioned previously is nothing like as good at maths as I am, and I really don't have the `feel' for the subject. The only person in my A level applied maths class who was told it wasn't a good idea to do S level was from a Bangladeshi family - also Asian (he worked very very hard to pass at all and had even less feel for maths than me - an impressive student, just not a natural mathematician). I've known lots of Chinese people who are lousy at maths; I've only ever met one Chinese engineer that I can think of (she's dead cute, so that's okay). I've known plenty of black people who can't rap to save their lives and have no sense of rhythm at all to speak of. And I've even met Jews who went into acting (for example) and screamed at the thought of becoming an accountant or a doctor, can you believe it?
