If the user unplugs the network cable, after a minute or two, the computer will log on, then you re-plug in the cable and all appears to be fine. You can access excahnge and shares. The user has changed the computer name, I removed the old name from AD, I also re-set the existing name in AD. This did not help. I checked DNS, the correct machine name is in DNS. Also, if you run nslookup you resolve all names. Any other suggestions. two thoughts, could the sid be messed up from the name change? Also, if i go to the contrpl panel> user Accounts > advanced tab > advanced user management > advanced button And i right click on the Administrators Group and select properties. I do see the user/domain listed, but the string follows that looks like a sid number. Thanks for any help Chris

Harper on 13 Feb 2005 18:04 I would remove the computer account from the domain controller, then with the computer disconnected from the network remove it from the domain and put it into a workgroup. You will be warned that the computer account could not be removed, and that's fine because we did that manually. Then re-connect the computer to the network and re-join the domain. The reason you're seeing accounts with SID IDs instead of resolved IDs is because you are indeed not connecting to the domain properly. Resolve that issue as above and that should also resolve the odd-looking account problem. -- Richard G.
