From: Michael Grey on 18 Apr 2008 17:15 Good Day, A friend has a HP C4280 running Vista Home Premium. All the HP suite is loaded. When he prints from Word 2007 the document prints but when closing Word he gets a message stating to install the printer driver. It then closes. The next time he tries to print from Word he gets the same message and outcome. I told him to try just the printer driver. Did I suggest correctly or is there another area to address? Thanks in Advance.

I am assuming he used the Vista driver. Does this happen from other applications? When the printer was installed did your friend connect the USB cable to the PC and printer with the printer powered on before the printer installation was performed? If so, that is the probable cause. I suggest the following: 1. Disconnect the USB cable from the printer. 2. Uninstall the printer. 3. Go to Control Panel, Open the Printers Folder and make sure there is no mention of the printer, if there is Delete it. In the same folder select File, Run As Administrator, Server Properties. Select Drivers and if the printer is mentioned there then Remove the driver. 4. Reboot the PC. 5. With the USB cable still disconnected, reinstall the printer. Do not connect the cable until the installation application asks for it. Good luck. Tony MS MVP Printing/Imaging
