I used Partition Master (free Home Edition) to reduce the XP partition size
in a dual boot Windows 7 system.

Partition master could not complete the operation because it found "some
error" on the system following reboot.

XP still boots and Windows 7 still boots.

The only problem is that the XP drive is now missing when I boot in to
Windows 7 - I can no longer access the XP files from Windows 7. XP was
previously accessible as the "c:" drive from Windows 7 but now there is no
drive letter allocated to it and no sign of it in "My Computer".

Partition Master shows the XP install as "*" with no name but with all the
other attributes installed. The Partition Master file explorer shows that
all the files are still there.

How do I allocate a drive to XP from within Windows 7 so that Windows 7 can
see the XP files again?

It all depends on what damage the incomplete repartitioning action caused.
If the damage is minor then you can assign a drive letter by running
diskmgmt.msc via Start/Run, then right-clicking the System partition and
setting a drive letter.

Thank you. That worked!
