check this out, I have XP and it worked for me.

Super simple. Somehow the registry gets confused but you don't actually have to go into regedit to fix it.. further info here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/233526

Hope it works!

Display and sort order in Open and Save As windows?
05-Mar-09

Hello, folks,

On my main work PC (XP SP3) I'm unable to permanently change the way files
and folders are displayed in the little "Open" and "Save As" filesystem
browsing windows. Right now a directory's contents are shown in these little
windows in List view and sorted by date, which I would normally only use for
special purposes. Whenever I open one of these little windows to browse to a
file to be opened (or to a place to save one) it does let me change the view.
I always change it to Details view, sorted alphabetically with folders at the
top) but that never sticks--the next time I open one it has always reverted
to List view and sort by date.

Explorer's own normal filesystem windows display the way I want them
(Details view sorted alphabetically for most folders, but with "remember each
folder" set so I can have files in graphics directories display as
thumbnails.) This is the way I've set Tools/Folder Options/View on every XP
install I've ever done--more than a hundred at this point--and I'm very
familiar with the process. But Tools/Folder Options/View has "Apply" and
"Apply to All Folders" buttons that I've never seen for "Open" and "Save As"
windows.

Is this a job for regedit? If so, what should I change? (And P.S. if anybody
knows a way to increase the default size of "Open" and "save As" windows so I
don't have to stretch them out every single time, that would be awesome also.)

Thanks very much!

And it's the only one that does it right.

Who is that going to help?
