From: BobF on 23 Apr 2008 05:46 This ( http://www.runtime.org/driveimage-xml.htm ) was recommended as a bu/imaging solution. I've been using ghost'03, but I've grown tired of booting into PC-Dos to do backups. DiXML has the option of using shadowing so it runs in windows. Anyway, I've made a couple of images with it. Haven't tested restore yet. This topic comes up periodically, so I thought I'd share.

This tool in included in the 'Ultimate Boot CD for Windows' (along with some other fine tools) so no real need to rely on your DOS bootdisk any more: http://www.ubcd4win.com/ Kay

You can never back up all the open files etc, and you'll always have to take some sort of "snapshot" of the system while it's up - to do the backup. When it's shut down (and you boot something else from CD) everything is closed and "off" and I just think you have a better back up. Just my 0.02 (worth about $0.04 now) ;-) -- =========== John Braner jbraner(a)NOblueyonderSPAM.co.uk http://www.soundclick.com/johnbraner_music.htm (that's an underscore) ** Posted from http://www.teranews.com **

OTOH, if you're pretty much just backing up, then it's a great convenience, IMO. > Just my 0.02 (worth about $0.04 now) ;-) > I'm sure perspective is involved in the valuation somewhere :-)) |
