From: "Dorothy Napier" <Dorothy on 23 Jun 2005 06:36 Hi I have xp home on my hard wire desktop and wireless on my laptops but running xp pro. I can not get the puters to see each other or share the printer. I have gone through all of the networking setups for the puters and tried adding the printer via the "add printer" still nothing. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong. thank you
From: Mary on 23 Jun 2005 12:45 Do you have file & printer sharing enabled? Did you share the printer as well as individual files on the network? XP requires you to share individual files & printers by right clicking on each and selecting Sharing & security. Look up 'Share printer' in Help to see what steps you missed. Make sure the connected computer & printer are both on. "Dorothy Napier" wrote: > Hi I have xp home on my hard wire desktop and wireless on my laptops but > running xp pro. From: Peter on 25 Jun 2005 18:47 I had exactly the same issue. I never really solved it "properly" as such, but found a work around on my system. The computer sharing was on XP Home, the one trying to access was XP Pro. Everytime i tried to browse to the printer, it would come up access denied. I tried typing the location of the printer (\\computername\printername) directly into the add network printer box when it asks for the location, and it worked! It is most frequently caused by one of two possible problems - a browser conflict, and a misconfigured or overlooked firewall. Check for a browser conflict using browstat, run on both computers. <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/browstat-utility-from-microsoft.html#Error53> Look for misconfigured or overlooked firewalls. <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/your-personal-firewall-can-either-help.html> General troubleshooting for Network Neighborhood problems. <http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/troubleshooting-network-neighborhood.html> -- Cheers, Chuck http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/ Paranoia is not a problem - it's a normal response from experience.
