Hello...

Ever since I upgraded from Sonar 4 to 5, I've never been able to get
Sonar 5 to work properly.. Playback works fine, but if I record a
track, it records for about a second, and then the error "Unable to
save Entire Recording, The audio disk may be full." This happens every
time, and I really don't think the issue is with the audio disk because
even after a audio disk clean the same error pops up.

I've pretty much ignored this, and have gone back to using Sonar 2 and
then importing those files to 5 for mixing.. Well I figure its about
time to get this mystery solved so I can really get started with using
Sonar 5...

I've looked repeated on the cakewalk site for issues and on bulletin
boards for similar problems but havent been able to find any answers...
(btw I've also already installed the sonar 5.1 patch)

Any suggestions?

Try changing the DisRecBufSize value in the aud.ini file found in your
Cakewalk/Sonar5 directory. I raised mine to 256 and that fixed the
problem.

I wouldn't hurt to re-run the Wave Profiler: Options/Audio

Or alternately, just go to Options/Audio then the Advanced tab, and tweak
the I/O Buffersize parameter. I think it is the same underlying AUD.INI
value anyway, but you can do that one without restarting SONAR to have it
take effect to try various values. I had this same problem at one point
once my audio track count got very high and I was trying to record more
tracks. I raised mine to 512, and I don't think I've had the issue since.

I believe, though, that the "audio disk may be full" error message may be a
catchall message that gets used in a number of I/O-related cases that SONAR
can't diagnose more fully. In the particular case Michael was referencing,
and which I've seen, there isn't enough I/O bandwidth allocated to allow it
to add the streams related to recording your parts, but I've heard others
mention something about it happening if a WAV file gets up over a certain
size (I think it was either 2GB or 4GB from memory) where it runs into a
Windows OS limitation. I'm guessing it would be more accurate if SONAR just
said, "your audio disk may be full, or there could be any number of other
things that could be going on, but the bottom line is I can't write your
recording to disk." ;-)
