From: me on 20 Sep 2006 18:03 Thanks. I'll do better than that. Yesterday afternoon when I had installed only XP, MS Office 2003, and a couple of old utilities I took an image of the C: partition. I intend to restore that image tonight. If it works there won't be any vestige of the scanner software left. When you think you have uninstalled it completely, set the following environment variable (you will probably need to reboot to make it effective): devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 Then open device manager and click 'View', 'Hidden Devices'. You might be surprised what you find - right-click and uninstall as appropriate. > >On Wed, 20 Sep 2006 09:55:54 -0700, "Cari" <NewsGroups(a)coribright.com> >wrote: > >>Ensure you totally uninstall the scanner before reinstalling it. From: me on 21 Sep 2006 05:19 Not so fast! When I ran Acronis True Image v8 to restore the image to the C: partition it decided that the image was corrupted. Now I am in a dilemma. Is it really corrupted or has the scanner driver damaged the partition table and made thhe image appear to be corrupted. If I run it anyway and it is corrupted I shall finish up starting again from scratch with a fresh install of XP and formattting the entire HD. If it does restore the image I might be no better off than I am now with the scanner completely eradicated. How can I tell? From: PCLIVE on 26 Sep 2006 23:51 The drivers that download will be the most recent. You do not need the CD for anything other than the bundled software. The drivers and CanoScan Toolbox can both be downloaded from the website. Toolbox is not required in order to use the scanner. You mentioned that you downloaded "LiDE25_11000WNEN.EXE and WIAdriverLiDE25.EXE". Do not install both of these at the same time. It is recommended that you install "LiDE25_11000WNEN.EXE" which will be ScanGear. As per the Readme.txt file for the WIA Driver, the two drivers can not be present on the same system at the same time...see below. 3. A General Tip on Usage ====================================================================== o The Canon Scanner WIA Driver and ScanGear CS (TWAIN driver) cannot be present (installed) on the same system for the same scanner at the same time. o Some of the Canon Scanner WIA Driver functions are limited in comparison to ScanGear CS. Please use ScanGear CS if you wish to use the functions not included in the Canon Scanner WIA Driver. I highly doubt that the installation of the scanner driver could have corrupted your partition or image backup. I guess it's not impossible though. But if that was the case, I suspect many other users of the same scanner to be having the same issue. The drivers for the LiDE 25 are not invasive in any way. Though there is obviously an issue going on with your system. If you end up formatting your hard drive and starting from scratch, be sure not to install the WIA driver. If you decide to use your image backup software, you may want to try and restore the image prior to installing the scanner. If no errors, then install the scanner driver (ScanGear). Good luck.
