It's working fine under gnome (gsb) but not at all under kde - whether
kde's compositing is disabled or not. xwmconfig shows compiz-gnome as the
only option with compiz. Can someone point me in the direction to figure
out why, please?

Thanks

Have you got an xinitrc for compiz-kde in /etc/X11/xinit ? I think
that's what you need for all wm's, compiz should not be any different
in this.

You're right - I am missing xinitrc.compiz-kde - but I need another hint.

I've tried copying/modifying xinitrc.compiz-gnome for a kde template and
it does add an entry to xwmconfig but no luck getting it to work properly.
Changing the xinitc symlink to point to the new entry didn't do any good
either. I looked at xinitrc on Mandriva but it's setup differently from
Slackware (no xinitrc.compiz-* at all) and I couldn't find any files with
content resembling Slack's xinitrc.compiz-* entries. I've also scoured
google with little luck either. Is xinitrc.compiz-kde something I need to
create by hand or is it auto-created elsewhere? I'm assuming it was
created for gnome when I initially installed GSB.

Thanks

barnabyh replies:

Hi troglo,

I don't use compiz so cannot say for certain. But normally xinitrc
should be generated for any wm at installation time.

You can create one by hand but I too at some point had difficulties
getting that recognized (with Openbox years ago). It took several
reboots and at one point showed up as a choice in gdm.

Not a definitive answer, I know.

Good luck,

Barnabyh

It may help me. I don't think I was rebooting but just restarting X. Maybe
that's the key.
