Hi!

What is, to your opinion, the best solution to input text using pinyin
and convert the text to chinese characters?

I'm currently using NJStar
http://www.njstar.com/njstar/chinese/
running on VirtualPC, but I would prefer to work with native Mac
software, if ever any exists.

Thanks a lot for your help

Are you using Mac OS X? My Chinese is very poor and my demand for
character input is limited, but the built-in input method in Mac OS X
works fine for me, and might be good enough for you. Use the
International pane in System Preferences to set it up.

I just tried it yesterday and seems it works quite fine, however I still
need something to match NJStar.
For example, you know it, when you want to write american you write
mei guo ren

With the built in input you have to type mei , choose se right
character, then type guo , choose the right character.... while in
NJStar you can just type meig and the software will show you a
list which will include mei guo and mei guo ren . You then just
have to choose the one you want, allowing to type text faster.

Alternatively, do you know how to type chinese using BoPoMoFo? I'm in
Taiwan and that's the system we use here, much more than pinyin.

Thanks again
Larry

Often I will type all the syllables to see if it will work for the
particular word. Sometimes it does, other times it does not. But I
don't use it often enough to describe it better than that.

Just now I tried typing "meiguoren" all at once, and it came up
correctly as soon as I typed a space, without having to look through
the list.

I studied for only one semester in the northeast of the mainland. We
used pinyin only. Hopefully someone else in this group knows a
bopomofo input method.

I just tried, I can just type meiguor, seems I cannot type more than 7
letters.
