Thanks. On the whole, I would prefer to have stayed with XP for development
but my IT
guy didn't agree.

I've been happy enough with Vista, but I think I wouldn't "upgrade" a
current machine again. I would get it on new machines. If you really don't
like the new "stuff" you can disable UAC and get rid of most of the clutter.
The search stuff is a little hard to get used to, but it works well if
you're willing to do things the way it wants you to. The one thing that
bugs me the most is popping up what used to be Network Places. It seems to
have to recheck for network connections every time which takes a while.

I haven't had any issues with VS 2005 except those I listed. I use it
mostly all day every day for doing C++ and ASP.NET programming.

My PC is dying so I'm getting a new one. We currently are supporting VS2003
and
VS2005 with mostly native C++ and Qt. No .net or winforms or whatever.

I see that I have to abandon VS2003 but that's not a big deal. We should
update
those guys anyway. Trolltech seems to be indicating that Qt with Vista
isn't a problem.
I'm glad to hear that VS will work OK with the patch but I've
seen other issues. For example, we use TortoiseSVN for our subversion
client.
I've seen some issues posted with that. Hopefully nothing too serious.

I've also seen that there are issues with different drivers and such but
this is coming preconfigured
from Dell so hopefully they'll sort that out. Also some issues with writing
DVDs and things. But since
my IT guy is behind this, I know where to complain. <g>

Thanks for the input.
