Simple question (as I am mentioning it in my thesis...): what is the
most `official' abbreviation for 'Fortran 2003 compiler'? Should one
write `f2003 compiler' or `F2003 compiler'?

Thanks,
Bart

I would be surprised if there is an official abbreviation such as the
above. I would recommend the capitalized version. I think you can
suitably define your own and document it somewhere in your paper.
Some were once referring to it as F2K3 also. Otherwise, I'd just
spell out "Fortran 2003 compiler".

And if the guardian of thesis compliance to the style guide doesn't like
it, (s)he'll be the first to let you know! :)

At least these days it doesn't take retyping a full chapter on mats to
make a simple correction as it once might have. (Like many others here
no doubt, DAMHIKT :( )....

Ain't that the truth. I submitted my draft proposal for my Master's
recently. I was issued a full-fledged handbook that included a
precisely defined format and told to use it. I copied the template
directly from the handbook into my paper and filled in around it. The
prof promptly responded that it was in the wrong format, but provided
no details. I decided not to argue. They've mailed me a sample in
the proper format. Fairly nit-picky differences. I probably should
have chosen the prof that wrote the handbook as my advisor (I actually
expected this from prior experience and thought of it before).

That is exactly how I solved my `problem'. It takes a couple more
keystrokes to type, but it's 'safer' ;-)
