I have flash 8 and I am trying to put a list box onto the stage. How do I do this. In 2004, you would just drag and drop the component onto the stage. What do I do to add a list box?

I have tried to do that. When I click and hold the list box or any component
and drag it, I get over to the stage and there is a small drag box with the
mouse arrow, but when I let go to drop it there is nothing there. The only
thing that seems to happen is the component list will expand to show the sub
list.

it sounds like you're trying to place it on a layer that is locked.
