A poster here, claims to have succeeded in running WinXP SP2 with 3GB.
Vista 32 bit had trouble with 2.5GB or 3GB installed. In another thread,
another OS had a different result. Have a look through vip.asus.com
for your board, and see what results others have got.

You could also try nforcershq.com, as there is a forum there with lots
of nforce2 experiences.

For example, a poster here, succeeded in running 3GB, when the video
driver is missing, and the system is using VGA graphics. That would
suggest there is some kind of resource problem, caused by >2GB physical
memory. Apparently even 2.25GB still had a problem.

From the manual....

2.4.2 Memory configurations
You may install 64MB, 128MB, 256MB, 512MB, and 1GB DDR DIMMs into
the DIMM sockets using the memory configurations in this section.

Important notes on memory configurations

1. Installing DDR DIMMs other than the recommended configurations
may cause memory sizing error or system boot failure. Use any of
the recommended configurations in Table 1.
2. Always install DIMMs with the same CAS latency. For optimum
compatibility, it is recommended that you obtain memory modules
from the same vendor.
3. DIMMs with more than 18 chips are not supported.
4. DIMMs with more than 8 devices on each side of the module are
not supported.

Table I Recommended memory configurations
Sockets
Mode DIMM_A1 DIMM_A2 DIMM_B1
Single-channel (1) Populated - -
(2) - Populated -
(3) - - Populated
Dual-channel* (1) Populated - Populated
(2) - Populated Populated
(3) Populated Populated Populated

* Obtain DDR400 DIMMs only from ASUS qualified vendors for better
system performance. Visit the ASUS website (www.asus.com) for the
latest qualified vendors list.

As I recall, this board is very particular about the memory used.

Crucial claims to have tested the A7n8x e deluxe motherboard with 3 1 gig
strips
of ram and run it successfully. I haven't seen anything anywhere on the net
that says
this motherboard running vista 32bit can run this much memory.

I appreciate all the help
looks like the ram gets shipped back to crucial
