From: JM Remacle on 8 Feb 2005 15:55 Hello, I try to download 9.2 via ftp. I burned mini installation boot iso and began the process explained in a minihowto: manual installation load network card module verify installation cd (is ok) start installation: choice ftp Have i to choose dhcp or not? I try to download from ftp.belnet.be but they have a lot of ip addresses... I asked to belnet and i was answered that i just had to write ftp.belnet.be but that does not work. If i write e.g. 193.190.198.20 after a while i get the message 'failed to connect to ftp server' I tried many other ip addresses (140.221.9.138....seen on the howto) but i get the same message... i tried again and again but without success I could consider downloading directly the whole directory and install from the hd but there are a lot of unnecessary files so i would prefer ftp install. I have no dvd burner Can you help me ? if you know a very detailed howto please tell me Thanks JM

I tried at the first window where i can choose manual intallation, failsafe, rescue... and after i entered the text you mention below in the boot options the pc boots the normal distro. At that time the ethernet card is not yet detected so i do not see precisely where i have to enter what you say. > "linux26 install=ftp://<mirror>/suse/i386/9.2/" If my memory serves me correctly i indeed already saw that sentence but i do not remember where... Do you need to log into your ISP before you can have Internet access? Are you not DHCP? I'm really not sure what you mean by the above statement, but I'm getting a feeling your network isn't configured in a way that will allow you to do ftp install. Do you require propriety software to connect to the Internet in windows? Maybe you can still do it, but you have to have a working network first! In this case, you would have to use manual install, and get it going, but I'm not sure how to do that. I really don't quite understand your setup. Tom F. |
