From: Jerry on 16 Apr 2008 17:15 on Vostro 1500, all air intakes are on the bottom. What happens if I set it down on something like a soft blanket, when all intakes become blocked? Is there some overheating shutdown, does it run until something is damaged, or what? Thanks.

Done enough times, however, this will take its toll on the components and damage may occur. William

If it overheats, it will shutdown w/o damage. As a general rule, just use it on surfaces with unrestricted airflow to the vents. You're not going to kill it by using it on your lap or on the couch or bed once in a while.

Set it on that and I never need to worry about blocked vents. -- Bob
