I would like my calendar to be shared with others, but prevent one from
clicking on the appointment to see details. All they see is subject and
location.

If you have created the appointment on your calendar, right click on the appointment and select private. Users who have permission to see your calendar will only see: Private Appointment
.

This is not possible. You can mark them private to hide all data or remove
calendar permissions and only give them free/busy permission - it you have
exchange 2007, you can control the level of details.
