Common Desktop Environment, usually shortened to "CDE" has been quite common for at least the last ten years or so. > how can we rename the terminals and consoles in solaris? i think there > should be some way to do it. What problem are you trying to solve? You should be able to set window and icon titles by using <OSC>2l;Title<STS><OSC>2LIcon Name<STS> Where "<OSC>" is a control character having the hex value "9D" and <STS> is a control character having the hex value "9C". This worked on "DECWindows" which was Digital Equipment's implementation of X-Windows. Give it a try and let us know if it works.

Yes but they want to remove it and replace it with Gnome. yuk > > how can we rename the terminals and consoles in solaris? i think there > > should be some way to do it. > What problem are you trying to solve? I dont see a problem here... : / Unless you want to know what host your are on or something equally lame? For that you can alter PS which is a far better reminder > You should be able to set window and icon titles by using > <OSC>2l;Title<STS><OSC>2LIcon Name<STS> > Where "<OSC>" is a control character having the hex value "9D" and <STS> > is a control character having the hex value "9C". > This worked on "DECWindows" which was Digital Equipment's implementation > of X-Windows. Give it a try and let us know if it works. Actually a simpler echo command will do but why not just read the man page on xterm or dtterm? Its builtin. And you can manipulate the icon too up to about 7 characters. Perhaps the OP could flesh things out a bit...
