From: vancoppenolle.cardoen on 20 Jun 2008 19:05 Hi, The batteries of my 48sx were empty for a while and I now wanted to use the machine again. I replaced the batteries but all I have is a blue screen with on top two symbols activated: the working symbol and the sending out symbol. Power on / off is not working. It seems like the machine is blocked. Does anybody know how to resolve this problem? Thanks, Frank
From: Raymond Del Tondo on 20 Jun 2008 21:39 Hi, remove the top left rubber foot, which can easily be done with xour finger nail. You should see a small hole, maybe with a letter 'R' nearby. If there's no hole, try the other foot (the real left one;-) Then, take a paper clip, bend one end of it so you have a straight metal stick of about one centimeter length. Next step is to push the staightened end into the hole, as usual. After a millimeter or two, you'll feel a slight resistance. So push the metal end farther into the hole, but don't use too much force. After about a nother millimeter of travel way, the 'spring' which you levered with your metal stick, will touch ground. Rest in this position for one or two seconds. Then, remove the straightened paper clip. Your HP-48SX should show normal display now. If that doesn't help, you could try the master clear procedure described in the HP-48 manual: ON+A+F WHAT TO AVOID : Never put in the batteries with the wrong polarity! This will very likely really damage your HP-48! Keyword for this is: Fried Zener diode. There have been many threads here and in the hpmuseum forum.
