From: Phil Earnhardt on 5 Feb 2006 12:32 I'd like to create a plain vanilla DVD, with chapters, that can be played without any menu navigation on the title page. I'd like to be able to cue to a particular chapter without a monitor simply by using the play button, the forward/back chapter buttons, and the chapter number display on a generic DVD player. I plan to burn dual-layer DVD+R disks. Is it possible to author a DVD that works this way with iDVD? --phil

I don't believe so, no. I just fired up iDVD 6, and can't figure any way to do such a thing. You have to pick SOME theme, which will prevent you from doing what you want to do. Roxio's Toast 7, however, can do exactly what you need, and it might be worth checking out. Here's what the interface would look like -- you drag the movie files from the desktop into the main window: http://img393.imageshack.us/my.php?image=toast5rj.jpg The "No Menus" option on the left will make it do exactly what you want. You put it in, and either hit "Play" to go to the first chapter, or go forward to the specific one you want. It'll put them in the order you have them in the main Toast window in the picture above, and you can order them however you need. -- Garner R. Drag the movie to the first box for it to play when the disk is inserted. Don't know about chapter marks.

Search for this: Making a movie or slideshow play before the main menu appears

I found "auto play" when looking around in the online help for iDVD. What I couldn't tell from the help is how one would have chapter breaks in the material inserted in the auto play. As another poster noted, I don't believe there is any way to insert content with chapter markers in that auto play box. I don't have a specific objection to having a title page as long as I can seek to a particular chapter by using only the front-panel buttons on a generic DVD player: the play/pause button, and the forward/back chapter buttons. At least, the title page should be silent; at best, it would be totally black. --phil
