Next: iTunes - someone elses music showing?
From: Ian McCall on 18 Feb 2006 12:33 OK - having run through the maths it looks like I'll be handing the Power Mac back (lease) and going to iMac Intel 20" (bought). A shame and all that, but there you have it. Really like my Power Mac, but there's no getting away from the fact there's outstanding lease payments and the iMac is a little quicker. Balancing it all out....iMac please. A few questions then: 1. It -is- dual-screen, isn't it? As in I can connect my 20" Cinema Display to it without hassle? 2. Can I connect a Firewire 800 device to it (my external drive)? I know there's no 800 port, but can I step 800 down to 400? 3. Has anyone come across anything that simply -will not- run? 4. NeoOffice - working or not? Speed irrelevant at the moment. Site doesn't give me much hope though. 4a. If not NeoOffice, is Excel working fine on it? Really don't care about anything other than spreadsheets. 5. Cheap, document-oriented (ie. not perfect photo - think invoices etc.) scanner for use with Image Capture and Graphic Converter? Next ones are of interest but less important: 6. What's the state of emulation on it: MAME? Power64? Amiga? ST? Basilisk II to get games like Spectre and Prince of Persia running? 7. Bookworm Deluxe ok? 8. Bejeweled 2 Deluxe ok? Think that's it. I'm slightly annoyed and slightly pleased - was going to wait for rev 2, will have to start using Cubase on the laptop until a universal binary appears, no Keyword Assistant for iPhoto (though I suppose I can help the guy there)...those are the annoyances. Pleased...well who wouldn't be pleased to get a faster machine? Dual 20" monitors rather appeals too. It's likely I'm going to be moving from contracting to full time employment soon and that means some of the business perks I've been getting have to be dealt with quickly before it all becomes a drag. Cheers, Ian

On <http://www.apple.com/imac/whatsinside.html> it says the new iMacs have "Support for external display in extended desktop and video mirroring modes" Cheers, Chris

I'm fairly sure I'd heard the new ones had display-extending abilities. I was looking at the iMac G5 (iSight) model and had a monitor plugged in. It's on the desk next to the iMac Core Duo...I swear that's why I got it wrong... |
