From: Jim_colo on 31 Jan 2006 19:19 Help My iPAQ H1940 operating system is corrupted! How do I reinstall the OS? (not sure what went wrong
From: Jim_colo on 1 Feb 2006 12:01 Thank you for your reply & your time. You gave me a link to the file I needed to update the ROM.(from my 1st post) The problem I have is I lost the ActiveSync & the Bluetooth. When I try to ActiveSync I get a error "repllog.exe (cannot be found or one of its components)," and "Make sure the path and filename are correct and all the required libraries are available." And the Bluetooth icon is gone. When I look at (using file explorer) the windows file, I see a lot of files with squares as a file name. I called HP and was told the operating system is corrupted & the ROM need flashed @ $80.00 or more. Is there a way I can flash the ROM my self? One other problem the started today is the backlight will only come on after I do a reset. This is my 1st Pocket PC, Not sure if HP is the best!! I believe activesync is required in order to reload a new rom to ur pda. From: Daboo on 2 Feb 2006 21:46 You might have another option, but it'll take a little research on your part. I can get you started though. Go to MobilitySite Forums (formerly Dave's iPAQ Forums) at http://www.mobilitysite.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=4. In the area for the rx3115 and rx3715 models, there were several threads regarding people who had their ROM uploads crash part way through and they couldn't reload it. The answer was to get a german (or other foreign language) version of the ROM update, flash that, then go back to the original ROM update in English. My guess is that there is some file initially read that indicates if the ROM update is already present and keeps it from reinstalling. By installing the foreign language version, it allows the update to proceed completely. One other thought from my own experience. I had tried to do the ROM update with only a USB cable attached. After all, the USB connection provides enough power to recharge the PDA, so why hook up the power supply as well? It made a difference. With only the USB cable attached, it would get part way through and then revert back to the old ROM image. With the power supply attached, it made it all the way through. So my suggestion to sum all this up, is to find a foreign version of the ROM image, install that, and then go back to the original + when you do it, make sure the power supply is plugged in as well. P.S. If you're having probems with the Active Sync, reinstall it first. Perhaps one of those files became corrupted as well. Good luck! Chris
