From: Richard Sisk on 27 Dec 2005 00:43 Just got an iPAQ rx1950 for Christmas and I am getting really frustrated trying to get Internet Explorer to work over WiFi. It is running Windows Mobile 5.0 OS. The WiFi part was easy. I have a DLink wireless router in my house. The iPAQ sees the router, connects, gets an IP address all with no problem. I can ping the iPAQ from another computer on the network, no problem. When I use IE to browse to a web page, I get the error "The page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost. Check the connection and try again." I have tried using the "Internet" type of connection and the "Work" connection. I have done soft resets after changing the connection type. I have no problem accessing the internet over the wireless network from my laptop running W2K Server. What am I missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

From: Richard Sisk on 28 Dec 2005 13:39 Nice site Beverly, lots of cool stuff for the Pocket PC beginner like me. Anyway, I got vxUtil loaded and poked around and found some interesting bits o' information. First a little more background. While I was out and about town, I was able to access the internet and use the browser on several free WiFi hotspots with no problem. So that tells me it is something unique about my home setup. I have an unusual home WiFi network. Since I am stuck with a dialup modem connection at home, I use an intermediate gateway computer to link the wireless router to the internet. The gateway PC uses Internet Connection Sharing to bridge the WiFi network to the internet. See the diagram below showing my network config. iPAQ ------> DLink DI-624 Router ----------> Gateway PC -----------> Dialup to Internet (10.10.0.121) (10.10.0.1) (10.10.0.103) ^ | Laptop ----------------------| (10.10.0.101) So, I can ping from my laptop to the iPAQ, and using vxUtil, I can ping the other direction with no problem. The iPAQ is able to get an IP address assigned by the DHCP server without any problem. Using vxUtil, I can also retrieve the HTML from the web site I am trying to access (216.86.200.206) with no problem. It is just when I try to access the same site (using the IP address) using PIE that I get the error message: "The page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost. Check the connection and try again." So, maybe it has something to do with the fact that PIE is going through a gateway to get to internet, not sure. Any further thoughts you or anyone else out there might have would be greatly appreciated.
