According to BBC News
<http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7349101.stm> the iPhone is now
169 at the o2 store and the carphone whorehouse on the 8Gb model
until 1st June.

One assumes that in June the 3G iPhone mark 1 will be announced and
they're just clearing their old stock. CPW/o2 seem to be saying that
this is a special offer and therefore the iPhone at Apple stores is
still 100 more.

I just had a squint at o2.co.uk and they seem to be wanting 269 still
and so is the carphone warehouse website.

Anyway, I don't have any o2 coverage where I live so it's not much use
to me.

(Also, can someone clarify: If I buy an iPhone do I sign up for the
contract there and then? The o2 website seems to imply that I buy the
handset and then get home and select a tariff?)

It appears easier than I thought with ziphone 3. Walk into o2 shop,
hand over 169, no bank details or contracts are signed, walk home,
open box, stick iPhone into recovery mode, tada. iPhone on T-Mobile
web'n'walk!

I only noticed that site because I was unlocking a nokia for a mate, I
suspect with a bit of research there are simpler ways.. but you are right it
appears to be that simple, I have played with an i-phone thought about it...
not convinced I would spend 169 on one though, my flakey old N70 can
still be used as a modem with the laptop,
