I have the 40 GB model but just shy of 20 gigs full. Anyhow recently
started using the iHome clock/radio/alarm at the office to play my
tunes

So it sits in the saddle all day and just chugs through. Recently the
iPod has been slow to react/recognize moves/touches on the wheel when
making selections, etc. Have been hearing the chugging of the "hamster
on the wheel", so to speak, like a PC when the hard-drive and processor
are being taxed and burping almost. Not sure if this used to happen or
is a completely new thing. Had been using the Bose headphones as
primary amplification so ... maybe it was always there.

The problem has been getting worse, to the point where the iPod will
skip songs that work on iTunes and had been playing fine (so not an
issue of not being "on" the iPod), and most recently it's getting
completely stuck. Can't shut it down/turn it off. Nothing. Basically
have to take it home, saddle it and let iTunes do it's
thing....Happened each of the last three days. Seems like a growing
problem.

In any event I'm trying to determine if it's an iPod size/memory-home
PC-related issue, possibly somehow a virus was transferred to the iPod
from the laptop?
Or, if it's an iHome-created issue? I say this because the iPod's been
getting a lot more use now being at work with the iHome player. And
there's a fair amount of warmth, dare I say heat, generated from it
sitting and playing in the iHome all day long. Wondering if there's a
heat issue that is affecting the iPod and causing the problem, given
iHome is a device not manufactured by Apple. But wouldn't UL have
tested and rated this issue? Or at the very least Apple since it's
being marketed directly from their site?

Any ideas / suggestions / similar experiences? Sources to take the
issue to?
Thanks in advance,
Scott
