From: KraftDiner on 17 Dec 2005 21:52 I can't get the 'Do not disconnect" message to disappear from my iPod video. No volume seems to be mounted on the mac or in iTunes... Don't know how to reset this device...

It's uncommon, but it does happen. Hold down the Menu and the center (select) button at the same time, and it will reset in about 6 seconds. Let go when you see the Apple logo. -- Garner R. From: KraftDiner on 18 Dec 2005 13:00 ok, it seems to have rebooted but now I've got an unhappy iPod icon in the center of the screen.
From: KraftDiner on 18 Dec 2005 13:10 I've done that now.. Thank you... However it came back with an unhappy face icon. I connected it back to the lap top and reset it again. I is now flashing a red circle with a line threw it and has the same message, "Do not disconnect". iTunes is running and says that there is no iPod connected to the computer. But there is. There is a green battery at the top of the display that has an icon of a plug in it. What do I do now?

Sounds like somehow the software on the iPod got corrupted, or there's a physical problem with the iPod's drive. A software problem is *much* more likely. The solution is to use the iPod Updater software, and restore the iPod to factory settings. That will clear the drive and reload the software. I hope the iPod wasn't your only copy of this music, because restoring the iPod will erase any music on it. You can get the updater here: http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/ Download and install this updater. Run it with the iPod plugged in, and click the "Restore" button. If it doesn't see the iPod, leave the program running and use the Reset again (hold Menu and Select). When the Restore button becomes available, click it. Once that's done, it should show up in iTunes, and you can reload your music. Does that help? -- Garner R. Miller Clifton Park, NY =USA= http://www.garnermiller.com/ |
