Numbers has some great ideas - the idea of having several tables on one sheet
makes it so much more flexible than Excel, and if you approach it with an
open mind you quickly discover what ugly workarounds Excel needs.

The big problem is that there is no freezing or splitting of panes, which
means that any list of more than a few dozen items is really hard to keep
track of. If Apple do any maintenance on this product at all, this will be
changed in the next version, and Numbers will then be useable.
