Ha ha... I'd love that... for everyone else... I can only speak for myself,
but I think I know the spelling of most of the words I write, especially in
my own language, Swedish. Still I do a lot of spelling errors, but these are
in most cases just a result of things like hitting the wrong key and things
like that. It would be very frustrating to spell a word maybe ten times just
because my fingers slipped... but if the feature is possible to turn off,
why not?

I don't know about you, but I would rip the thing out by it's roots =

her spelling if this was there?

No we don't need this...

An alternative idea is to use the spellchecker as it is and instead of
having it enter the correct spelling, type it oneself. I do that and
it works... :)

How about an add-on to the current OpenOffice, called a spelling
teacher. THis add-on would do as has been suggested. I think there could
be people who need to do this, but there are many who would be too busy.

Actually, that sounds interesting if you consider future users such as
school and high school students. It might even help to make OOo more a
part of some schools' curriculum.
IMO however it's a secondary consideration, but ... "future users"
could be a big number.

Just my 2
