I had some RAM problems recently, and I was forced to power-off on a
number of occasions. Unfortunately, this led to some corruption withing
kontact. Happily my e-mails were intact; I just couldn't read them!
Eventually I got kmail running again, but rss still won't work. I'd tried
renaming various files, and re-installing (after deleting what files
urpme didn't remove), but attempts at adding rss feeds results in kontact
'not responding'. If I try to re-name the rss archives back to what they
were, the same results.

That's one problem. The other is that Print Preview in kmail doesn't
work: I get an error "Preview failed: unable to start program Compress/
Extract Files." Web and newsgroup search hasn't thrown up any such
mentions.

Suggestions?
