I had a lot of trouble getting my last song to sound right (bottom end). I
went up and down with the bottom. After deciding I wasn't that deaf, I
started investigating. The new Samplitude 10.02 mp3 encoder in high quality
mode adds about 5db to the bottom end! I was sad, mad and glad! Sad that I
had not figured it out sooner, mad that such a "high end" program would be
that far out, and glad I finally figured it out. After all this, I decided
to do the lame thing. I noticed that they have a brand new version dated
04-06-2008. I don't know how to extract a lame-3.98b7.tar.tar file ? I tried
GZip but can't seem to get it to act right all that /d /s stuff. Also tried
renaming the file lame-3.98b7.tar.gz.
Any help would be appreciated.

tar is a unix archive format. I wouldn't assume it's got a Windows
binary inside - I have a feeling what you have is the source code. If I
were you I'd find one that in zip, rar, or exe format or is clearly
labeled as being for Windows.

Here's where I've been getting my LAME binaries lately.
