From: j2studio on 7 Apr 2006 14:41 ok I know there are a lot of posts regarding loadMovie - but I can't seem to get the info I need. Call me whatever. But here is what I'm looking to do. I am presenting a site on Monday in which the client home page will open in a DreamWeaver shell. In the middle of the page I would like to load a movie, which is essentially an advertisement, then at the end of the ad, I would like to use the loadMovie command to, well, load another movie. This particular movie will have a brief intro in which the viewer can then click on either of 5 buttons to load any one of 5 additional movies. All are relatively short, but I have read so much about the benefits of loadMovie as ooposed to forcing the viewer wait for large downloads. As if that wasn't enough, I want to name the initial movie that loads (the ad) "movie1", so that I can create different ads, publish them as "Movie 1" and replace the old ad so I don't need to go back in and republish anything according to the new ad's name. Does that make sense? Anyway, you can see examples here: http://www.j2studio.com/harc I am using Studio 8 on a Mac. Any help would be gtreatly appreciated. Thakns! JJ
From: martha_stewart on 7 Apr 2006 19:01 Hey j2studio, i am a bit confused, what you want to do is essentially this??...... Index.hml whick loads a flash Movie that is a advertisement.... after the advertisement has run it's course you want to load a different Flash movie that allows the users to choose between 5 different Movie Clips. Are you familiar with using containers? Here is a tutorial that shouls point you in the right direction: http://www.cbtcafe.com/flash/loadmovie/loadmovie.html Let me know if this helps, Martha Stewart
From: j2studio on 8 Apr 2006 06:02 Well that was sure easy! You must have had a lot of time to learn this stuff in the can huh? LOL It works great in Flash and test movie - but when I place the main SWF in my DW document, the movie after the "ad" doesn't load. I just get a blank screen. :frown;;) What is all this stuff I have read about methods, GET and POST? This tutorial didn't mention that at all. Is that because it was written for Flash 5? Hope you or someone can help.
From: joeq on 8 Apr 2006 09:38 i had a lot of problems with movies playing when i tested them but then not showing in the browser also... turned out, things just weren't in the proper directories.

Good grief, after several hour here of sweating and searching the net and my library, I finaly figured the same thing out! I have now put all the SWF files in the same directory as the index.htm page. Is there a reason why they have to be in the same directory? I had always learned and practiced to keep things "neater" by creating directories for arrangement's sake. While I'm at it, and it now works, I'm seeing something I don't like, before each of the new movies play, there is a bit of a lull and a blank white space. Is there a way to get rid of it? Please check it out here. And thanks for your reply. JJ |
