Hello.
Iv' got a powerbook laptop and had downloaded macos 7.5.3 bin files,
but realize that they are useless without a real macos system.
Where can I get 7.5.3 as an images to write it do floppies with dd or
rawrite?

I have no system installed on my laptop, so bin files are really
useless.

Thanks

The files on Apple's site at
<http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/Engl
ish-North_American/Macintosh/System/Older_System/System_7.5_Version_7.5.3/>
_are_ floppy images. You're going to need a live system to set them up.

Believe it or not they're not floppy disk images but a CD image split
into 19 parts. The first part is a self-mounting disk image i.e. it's an
application which when run gathers the other 18 parts together and
mounts a single disk of about 40MB. Each part is however limited in size
so it will fit on a 1.4MB floppy disk. Presumably the idea is that you
download the 19 parts, copy each part to a floppy disk, take the disks
to the destination Mac, copy the parts off the disks to the hard drive,
and run the self-mounting image. You then have mounted on your desktop a
disk image of the System 7.5.3 CD installer.

To the original poster:
There's a bootable floppy at
<http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_
Updates/English-North_American/Macintosh/Utilities/Network_Access_Disk_7.
5.sea.bin>

The bin suffix indicates it has a MacBinary header, and the sea that
it's a self-extracting archive. Both of these can be taken care of
StuffIt. There's the free StuffIt Expander for Mac and Windows, and a
time-limited demo of the full version for Mac, Linux, Solaris and
Windows.
http://www.stuffit.com/

http://www.jagshouse.com/Macs_and_PCs.html has more info on creating a
bootable Mac disk on a PC.
