From: mariowilson on 2 Feb 2006 03:03 Anyone try this? http://www.averyjparker.com/2006/01/13/mozilla-firefox-15-for-mandriva-2006/ (rpm for mandriva, firefox 1.5) I want to avoid Java, adobe, flash, or any other such issues if I can. Should I wait for something out of Mandriva Cooker? Cheers, MW

I did not find any issues other than a re-install of flash (as you would espect because this version gets a new entry at /usr/lib). So - if you want to play on safe try adding the repository at: http://seerofsouls.com/rpm2006.html . I will try out the rpm's at the location you have given and report here if there are any issues (that is - if no-one has tried it out yet).

I just upgraded firefox to 1.5 from cooker and had absolutely no trouble. I also had to reinstall flash but that's, as you said, expected. So all I did is activate the Mandriva 2006 Cooker repositories and used urpmi to select only the firefox 1.5 package. Afterwards, I reset my repositories to the normal main and contrib.

Mandriva RPMs always provide an outdated version. I tried Firefox 1.5 rpm from SoS and I got a segmentation fault when attempting to launch it. I'm running the edition downloaded from mozilla page without any hiccups though. http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/

Put it under /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins and it will be found by future upgrades. =arvi=
