After installing a web browser (unsuccesAfter installed a web browser
(unsuccessfully) my pop up menu has disappeared. I don't seem to have
a visible GUI to get it back. Any ideas on how to start the pop up
menu?

Give us a clue.....what window manager / desktop are you using?

Are you getting the expected furniture on windows? (hint if you can't
open any windows from the Xserver, switch to a console, export
DISPLAY=:0,0 and fire up xterm.)

I am running a patched Suse 10.3, KDE desktop, intel platform.

The windows appear to be running, altho I can't switch between the
three desktops I have set up. Applications run, display etc...

The problem is the side menu. The one the can either hide orlocked
open. Mine appears to be locked shut. For example, I can minimize an
application and display shows the app going towards the hidden menu,
never to be retrieved again, because the menu won't display.

Kill the process, start the same application and it works fine, just
can't minimize into the black hole menu that doesn't appear on the
desktop.

Thanks in advance.
