From: Pete on 6 Sep 2005 04:40 With HP moving away from the slate mode tablet are there any other manufactures keeping it on ? The real benefit of the 1100 is slate - as it is so light. What is the new HP like - is it bulky ? David
From: Mickey Segal on 6 Sep 2005 07:56 Motion Computing is not only sticking with slates but making them lighter and more portable with their new LS800 model. Microsoft has show a concept design of an "Ultra Mobile" slate (http://www.microsoft.com/billgates/speeches/2005/04-25WinHec05.asp). As the Tablet PC market matures, one will see a proliferation of different form factors. It may turn out that once a computer is too big to put in a jacket pocket that most people will want a keyboard despite the additional weight. From: Mickey Segal on 6 Sep 2005 10:59 The Motion Computing LS800 fits in a doctor's white coat pocket - doctors made it clear that they would only carry around Tablet PCs if they could do so in a pocket. Current sport jackets do not have pockets of this size, but the clothing manufacturers will be glad to include appropriate pockets if they see demand jackets with such pockets. It is a bit of a chicken and egg problem, but the manufacturers seem interested enough that I hope to have one soon. "Gary A. SOME doctors, certainly not all. There will be continual evolvement of the Tablet. I agree that there will be different sizes for different uses. Motion, Electrovaya,Sahara and other manufacturers should continue to produce slates. -- Terri Stratton Microsoft Windows MVP - Tablet PC http://thetabletpc.net Microsoft Featured Community http://themediacenterpc.net "Mickey Segal" <not_monitored(a)example.com> wrote in message news:u%23x9SotsFHA.2072(a)TK2MSFTNGP14.phx.gbl... > Motion Computing is not only sticking with slates but making them lighter > and more portable with their new LS800 model.
