Hi
Is it normal to have lots of "Did not load driver" in the log file? The
system (WinXPpro, SP2) is completely stable but takes a while to boot up
(i.e. the progress type bar on the startup screen does about 10 cycles).

And, on another subject, when I've logged on, my LAN connection icon doesn't
appear in the system tray (is that the name of the area which is typically
at the bottom right?) until after 1 minute. This is probably related to the
fact that IE and OE do not work unitl the LAN connection icon is visible,
but Mozilla Firefox will work fine.

Thanks for any pointers.

Sounds like a few minor things going on here. first, try updating all of the
drivers you can from the hardware manufacturer's websites. That should help
alleviate the drivers not loading problem, and maybe help with the LAN icon
not showing up quickly.

Secondly, if you haven't yet, run a defrag. Probably wouldn't hurt to do a
page file defrag as well (download at
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=603). Then run BootVis
(http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=664).

Try those and see if it helps. If there's no or only minimal improvement,
run a diagnostic on the hard drive itself.

Thanks for the tips.
I did a defrag about a week ago.
All hard disks had thorough testing (manufacturer utilities) last week also.
I might try the page file defrag next.
And then go and get the latest drivers.

The thing that has made most difference to the size of the ntbtlog file was
the updating of my Network Associates virus checker. Was this just a
coincidence? Who knows. I didn't change anything else at the same time.

All that's left in my ntbtlog now (in terms of "Did not load driver") is;
Cdaudio.SYS
Changer.SYS
i2omgmt.SYS
kbdhid.sys
lbrtfdc.SYS
PCIDump.SYS
processr.sys
Sfloppy.SYS
The above never load successfully. Some other drivers are mentioned in the
log as not being able to load, but they do get loaded later on.
