From: stoner on 2 Apr 2008 07:51 I install sidux on this box and all seems to go ok with no error messages...I do an update/upgrade and reboot and all is still ok... ...I switch off and leave overnight and when I reboot although the cd/dvd is called for in /etc/fstab they are both missing in /dev and I cannot use the reader or writer...This does not happen in Ubuntu or Slackware. Can anyone suggest where I should be looking ?..I have tried earlier kernels and no joy..

If the device files aren't there then this suggests that the kernel modules aren't loaded, you can check this with the lsmod command. If they are not in the list then you can insert them into the running kernel with the modprobe command. -- Geoff

I checked using lsmod that the modules were there ok...As nothing came up using dmesg I thought the modules were not loading but they were... I get no error messages in the logs either...Have now installed sid and all seems to be ok..Sidux on this box works a treat..I still cannot understand why the system ran ok all day with several reboots but somehow loses it's settings overnight.. -- Regards Ted Wager g3tpi High Peak UK Using Sidux Linux |
